The Elements:
The Complete Guide to Raw Materials

Our creations don't start with a sketch; they start with the material. To wear a piece with daily confidence, you need to understand what it's made of.

The following guide reveals the science, nature, and history behind our raw materials, and the surgical standard that allows iDO Piece creations to live with you in the field.

925 Sterling Silver

Science and Nature:
Most people are familiar with silver for its cool luster – in fact, silver is the element with the highest reflectivity of all naturally occurring metals. But beyond its beauty, silver has natural antibacterial properties. Ancient sailors used to throw silver coins into their water barrels to keep the water fresh during long ocean voyages. Pure silver (99.9%) is too soft and bends easily. Therefore, the global standard is "925 silver" – an alloy containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% strengthening metals.

The iDO Piece Standard:
In mass production, that 7.5 percent often consists of cheap metals that cause jewelry to oxidize, tarnish, and trigger allergies. We formulate our alloy exclusively with premium strengthening metals. Oxidation occurs when there are micro-scratches in the metal that trap moisture; the meticulous polishing process in our studio smooths and buffs the silver to a surgical grade. The result is a sealed surface that dramatically repels oxidation. The outcome is a piece that is 100% surf-proof, resistant to salt and sweat, and ready to accompany you in the water without any need to take it off.

Gold (14K Solid Gold & Heavy Plating)

Science and Nature:
Gold is a cosmic element formed in stellar collisions billions of years ago. Its immense advantage is its indifference to oxygen – it simply doesn't rust. Gold purity is measured in karats (out of 24). 24K gold is 100% pure gold, but it is as soft as play-doh and cannot withstand daily wear. 18K gold contains 75% gold, offering a rich hue, but can still be scratched in rough conditions. 14K gold contains 58.5% gold and 41.5% strengthening metals – this is the ultimate gold formula that combines uncompromising luxury with structural toughness capable of absorbing an active lifestyle. Even if you bury pure gold in the ground for a million years, it will emerge exactly as it went in.

The iDO Piece Standard:
We offer the sun's hue in two levels of choice, both meeting the highest standard:

  1. Solid 14 Karat Gold: Solid gold castings without a drop of plating. This is the pinnacle of quiet luxury. An eternal and strong investment that requires no maintenance and will be passed on to the next generation.
  2. Micron Plating and Gold-Filled: The fashion industry is flooded with "flash" jewelry – thin gold plating of half a micron that peels off quickly. We refuse to participate in this. Our platings are extra thick micron gold platings, typically 3 microns of 14 to 18 karat gold, sitting on a base of high-quality gold-filled material. This is a thick and powerful shell that provides the warmth of the sun and the luxurious appearance of real gold, with high durability for everyday wear.

Natural Gemstones

Science and Nature:
Sapphires, natural zircons, emeralds, and pearls are the result of absolute chaos: immense pressure, scorching temperatures, and geological processes that push them from the depths of the Earth's crust to the surface. This violent and natural process is precisely what creates their beauty. Each stone carries a unique geological "fingerprint" – micro-inclusions that attest to its natural origin, and no two stones refract light in exactly the same way.

The iDO Piece Standard:
While many use cheap plastic stones or industrial glass to achieve "perfect and boring uniformity," we seek a direct connection to the earth and the ocean. Each stone is meticulously selected for its depth and hue. We do not try to eliminate the raw character of the stone, but rather frame it in silver and gold. When you wear one of our stone necklaces, you know that no one else in the world has the exact same sequence of nature on their body.

The Authentic Brazilian Cord

Science and Nature:
In the surfing and creative culture of South American beaches, strings are not just a means of tying – they are field equipment. The original Brazilian strings were developed over decades with one goal: to withstand scorching tropical sun, saltwater, and intense friction. They are woven using a microscopic, dense braiding technique, which makes them waterproof and prevents them from rotting, drying out, or losing their structural integrity.

The iDO Piece Standard:
For our soft and woven collections, we import only original, premium-standard Brazilian strings. Their absolute advantage is zero wear and tear: they maintain their rich and vibrant color pigment for years, do not unravel, and offer organic elastic flexibility that precisely adapts to body temperature and movement. This is extreme comfort that requires no maintenance.

Advanced Lab Grown Diamonds (CVD Diamonds)

Science and Nature:
Lab-grown diamonds are not imitations; they are entirely real diamonds. They share the exact same carbon structure, absolute hardness (10 on the Mohs scale), and light dispersion (fire) as diamonds mined from the earth. CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) technology builds the diamond atom by atom within a plasma chamber that recreates the extreme conditions of outer space, allowing for levels of purity almost impossible to find in nature.

The iDO Piece Standard:
We are aware that the traditional mining industry for natural diamonds is often accompanied by aggressive environmental damage and a complex reality of exploitation. We have chosen progress (The Green Pledge). Our diamonds are produced in San Francisco, California, in advanced laboratories powered by 100% green energy. We use only diamonds of the highest clarity grades (VVS) and perfect color (D-F), which allows us to provide you with iconic cutting and surgical precision, with complete peace of mind.

The Mechanics & Safety

Science and Nature: A piece of jewelry, no matter how luxurious, is only as strong as its weakest link. The greatest challenge in field jewelry making is creating a closure mechanism and core that will withstand salt, pulls, and waves. Simple mechanisms and weak crimp beads collapse at the first wave or open easily.

The iDO Piece Standard:
The core of our stone and pearl necklaces is made from nylon-coated steel cable – super strong, waterproof, and completely flexible. After years of development, we have created a unique securing technique for clasps that ensures the jewelry will not open on its own.
However, safety comes first: A chain that never breaks is a life hazard during extreme activities. We engineered our pieces with a calculated breaking point of approximately 15 kg. The chain will hold up in the sea, in waves, and during the toughest workouts, but in the event of a violent and life-threatening snag – the mechanism will give way and break to protect your neck. This is not weakness; it is surgical responsibility.

The Patina Process

Science and Nature: Noble metals and real raw materials breathe and react to their environment. Just as a high-quality leather jacket softens and molds to the body, or as a surfboard accumulates wax marks and micro-scratches from the reef – so too do sterling silver and cast gold react to your journey.

The iDO Piece Standard:
Small scratches or subtle changes in hue over the years are not "flaws." In the world of creation, this is called patina. Patina is the visual imprint of your experiences. It tells where you've been and what the piece has been through with you. Noble metals age, absorb character, and only become more intimate and beautiful over time.

The Intentional Imperfection

Science and Nature: Absolute perfection exists only in machines and mass production lines. In nature, true beauty lies precisely in imbalance – in the small deviation from the norm that makes every object unique and one-of-a-kind.

The iDO Piece Standard:
To ensure that every creation leaves a human mark, we apply the law of asymmetry to every piece. In every piece of jewelry we string or cast in the studio, a small, deliberate disruption will be incorporated into the design. Most often, this disruption will manifest as a single gold bead placed unexpectedly among the stones, or a single bead that breaks the perfect sequence. This asymmetrical touch is our personal signature. This is how you know your piece was assembled by human hands, and this is how we ensure that there is no other creation in the world identical to yours.
